Why change the name?
The old name was holding us back
From the very first magic word, our name quietly worked against us. People heard “Open Heart Magic” and thought of open heart surgery. If they knew we brought magic to hospitals at all, they assumed it was only for cardiac patients.
That confusion had a real cost. A parent sitting next to her son in the oncology unit would hear about Open Heart Magic and think, “That isn’t for us.” Potential hospital partners passed because they thought we only served the cardiac unit. And too many donors, runners, and companies weren’t sure what they were being asked to support.
It’s time we changed that.
Bedside Magic works for every kid
Here’s the truth: Bedside Magic works for every kid, in every unit, across the hospital. The 6-year-old waiting hours for an MRI. The teenager three weeks into a stay on the rehab floor. The little sister stuck in the family lounge while her brother has surgery.
The magic you make possible is too important to be held back by a name. So we picked one that says it plainly: we Bring Magic to Kids in Hospitals.

Nothing changes. Our Volunteer Specialists still show up at the same hospitals, on the same schedules, with the same personalized, interactive magic. When a Volunteer Specialist knocks on a door and asks, “Want to see some magic?” the kid still gets to say yes or no – sometimes it’s the only choice they get to make all day.

Not much. Our 100+ active Volunteer Specialists keep the same rigorous training, the same commitment to showing up for kids, and all their favorite magic words.
Those black jackets of power, though? They’re getting an upgrade over time.
